Thornton Cleveleys Cricket Club

Annual General Meeting 2018

This year’s AGM will be held at the Illawalla, on Thursday 6th December 2018 at 7.30pm.

Members are reminded that only those who are paid up playing members of the Club, Vice-Presidents or Life-Members, and who are 16 years of age or over will be allowed to vote at this meeting. Junior players aged 16 and above are also eligible to vote. Patrons of the Club are not eligible to vote.

The Committee looks forward to seeing you at this important annual event and would like to stress the importance of attending the meeting, as major decisions regarding the running of the Club over the next 12 months will be voted upon.

The following Club Executive Positions need to be filled and any nominations should be supported by an eligible proposer and seconder:

Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Communication Officer, Assistant Communication Officer, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Welfare Officer, Cricket Chairperson

There are also a number of Sub Committee posts to be filled these include:

Bar, Junior Section, Ladies, Senior Cricket, Social & Fundraising, Grounds

We will also confirm appointments of 1st Team, 2nd Team, 3rd Team and Sunday Team Captains/Vice-Captains and Selection Committee with an appropriate proposer and seconder.

In addition if any proposals to change the club’s rules or constitution again need to be proposed and seconded by a voting member.

All Nominations for positions and rule/constitution changes should be emailed, texted or sent to the Club Secretary by midnight on the 8th November, to adhere to the club rules of 28 days notice prior to the AGM date.

Upon reflection I have below tried to give a brief description of the duties that would need to be met in the three main positions available on the committee at the forthcoming AGM.

Chairman

Main task is to co-ordinate and oversee the club as a whole. Weekly tasks would include checking the grounds and clubhouse on a regular basis to ensure everything is secure. Arranging and granting access for repairs etc. Also representing the club where necessary at meetings (usually once a month) when Roger cannot attend.
Chairing monthly committee meetings. Plus any other “firefighting” that may crop up during the season and of course during the close season.

Treasurer

Collection and recording of subscriptions, bar and food takings. Payment of invoices when they become due. Paying to bank of surplus monies, Preparation of quarterly VAT returns and year end accounts. Reporting to committee on a monthly basis of the financial position.

Bar

Ensure that the bar is staffed and stocked for all games of cricket. Cleaning the lines on a two weekly basis. Ordering and taking delivery of stock.
Taking bookings and supervising functions. The club may decide not to host functions so this part of the job may not be as daunting as it sounds.

These descriptions are certainly not exhaustive but give a taste of the tasks involved. As I said in my previous musings I am always available should anyone wish to discuss the roles in more detail and would be delighted to talk to anyone at anytime.
